About Me
Dr. Bruce C. Carter is a retired ophthalmologist who specialized in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. He served patients in Charlottesville and throughout Virginia for over 45 years, providing medical and surgical care for children with eye conditions and adults with eye muscle disorders. Dr. Carter retired from active practice on September 30, 2022.
Dr. Carter completed his medical education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and pursued advanced fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology. Throughout his career, he focused on treating strabismus, amblyopia, and a variety of pediatric ophthalmological diseases, emphasizing eye alignment and muscle disorders.
He was board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and held appointments at Martha Jefferson Hospital and the University of Virginia Hospital. Dr. Carter was also a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a past president of the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
