About Me
Dr. Avinash V. Honasoge, MD, PhD is a vitreoretinal surgeon who treats the full range of medical and surgical retina conditions. His clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal detachment, macular holes and epiretinal membranes, retinal vascular diseases, uveitis, and managing dislocated intraocular lenses. He combines meticulous technique with evidence-based decision-making to preserve and restore vision whenever possible.
Dr. Honasoge completed a transitional year in St. Louis, ophthalmology residency at Washington University, and a two-year fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous at The Retina Institute. He earned both his medical degree and a graduate research degree in Birmingham. In the clinic and operating room, he emphasizes clear education, thoughtful counseling on risks and benefits, and close follow-up tailored to each patient’s diagnosis and goals.
