About Me
Dr. Anthony Culotta is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed his ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship in New Orleans. His training was marked by his immediate response to Hurricane Katrina, where he helped treat thousands of ocular injuries in the aftermath. This experience solidified his commitment to retina care and the community.
Dr. Culotta has a special interest in macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and vitreoretinal interface abnormalities such as epiretinal membranes and macular holes. He is a pioneer in the treatment of advanced diabetic macular edema and complex macular degeneration, developing novel algorithms that combine laser photocoagulation with intravitreal Avastin injections for recalcitrant diabetic edema. At the Retina Institute, he heads the advanced laser therapeutics lab, investigating new treatment protocols for neovascular diseases.
