About Me
Dr. Alexander Melamud is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in retinal disease and vitreoretinal surgery. He treats a range of conditions affecting the retina and vitreous, including retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and endophthalmitis. Dr. Melamud performs advanced procedures such as pars plana vitrectomy and complex cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Melamud is actively involved in research as a principal and co-investigator in clinical trials, with numerous peer-reviewed publications. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Georgetown University and co-directs the fellowship program with The Retina Group of Washington. Dr. Melamud also volunteers internationally, providing surgical care in Africa, Asia, and South America.
