About Me
Dr. Alan R. Schaeffer is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in diseases of the cornea, cataract surgery, and laser eye surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1987 and completed an internship at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, followed by a residency at Tulane University School of Medicine. He then pursued a fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston.
Dr. Schaeffer opened his own practice in Southaven, Mississippi in 2001, and later added a surgery suite for cataract and laser surgery as well as an additional office in Olive Branch, Mississippi. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the University of Tennessee Department of Ophthalmology and has held leadership roles including Program Chairman and President of the Memphis Society of Ophthalmology and Board Member of the Tennessee Society of Ophthalmology. He is also a former Medical Director of the Mid South Eye Bank.
