Dr. Tais Couto Bernardes P Estrela

Dr. Tais Estrela is a clinician–scientist in the Neuro-Ophthalmology Service at Mass Eye and Ear who cares for patients with complex vision problems that involve the brain, optic nerve, and eye movements. She evaluates and treats adults and children with misalignment (strabismus) and a broad range of neuro-ophthalmic disorders, working closely with patients and families to explain diagnoses and set clear, achievable goals for care. As Associate Fellowship Director for Neuro-Ophthalmology at Mass Eye and Ear and an Instructor in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, she teaches the next generation of specialists while advancing patient-centered research.

Dr. Estrela earned her medical degree and completed ophthalmology residency at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro. She went on to complete fellowships in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Boston Children’s Hospital and in neuro-ophthalmology at Mass Eye and Ear. Her practice emphasizes thoughtful testing, multidisciplinary collaboration, and individualized treatment plans to help patients return to the activities that matter most to them.
