About Me
Dr. Stephen Hypes is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist who focuses on complex diabetic eye disease and retinal detachments. He is an educator, author, and clinical investigator who brings a comprehensive approach to retinal care. His surgical expertise includes micro-incisional vitrectomy surgery for conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, epiretinal membranes, and macular holes.
As a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists, Dr. Hypes stays at the forefront of retinal treatments. He serves as associate clinical faculty for the University of South Carolina/Prisma Health Ophthalmology residency program and is the Program Director for the Palmetto Retina Center Fellowship. He has trained ophthalmology residents and medical students at Michigan State University and Louisiana State University.
Dr. Hypes is actively involved in clinical trials at the Palmetto Retina Center, contributing to the development of new standards of care. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed publications, reflecting his commitment to advancing retinal medicine and improving patient outcomes.
