About Me

Dr. Stephen De Souza is a vitreoretinal specialist and surgeon who joined Associated Retina Consultants in 2007. He is board certified in ophthalmology with a subspecialty in diseases and surgery of the retina, vitreous, and macula, a certification he has held since 1997. His training and practice in vitreoretinal surgery span three countries: Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Dr. De Souza serves as an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He has also been a clinical instructor at the University of Toronto and has served as a peer reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. His research has been published in American and international journals of ophthalmology and retina.

He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Retina Specialists. Recognized by his peers, he was selected as one of Phoenix Magazine’s Top Doctors and has been listed as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists by Castle Connolly Medical since 2015. Outside of medicine, Dr. De Souza is fluent in French and enjoys tennis, photography, and travel. He lives in Scottsdale with his wife and three children.
