About Me
Dr. Sophie Deng is a cornea and external disease specialist at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute, where she serves as Professor and Co-Chief of the Cornea and Uveitis Division. She is an expert in managing corneal and external ocular diseases, including corneal transplants, cataracts, and conditions such as limbal stem cell deficiency. Her surgical expertise includes endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK and DMEK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), penetrating keratoplasty, limbal stem cell transplantation, and artificial cornea implantation.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Deng leads the Cornea Biology Laboratory, where her research focuses on corneal epithelial stem cells. Her work aims to develop stem cell therapies to restore vision in patients with limbal stem cell deficiency and to improve diagnostic imaging and molecular tests for this condition. Dr. Deng's clinical studies are dedicated to advancing the treatment of corneal diseases and improving patient outcomes.
