Dr. S. Grace Prakalapakorn is a pediatric ophthalmologist who specializes in the medical and surgical management of eye conditions in children and adults with strabismus. Her clinical expertise includes treating amblyopia, congenital and pediatric cataracts, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, retinopathy of prematurity, and strabismus. She also manages ocular motility disorders related to cranial nerve palsies, thyroid eye disease, and trauma. Dr. Prakalapakorn finds working with children particularly rewarding because of their resilience and positive outlook.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Prakalapakorn is actively involved in public health ophthalmology and global health initiatives. She is a former Fulbright Scholar and has collaborated with ORBIS International on their Flying Eye Hospital. She has worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on infantile cataracts and congenital Zika virus infection, and has received research support from the National Institutes of Health for studies on retinopathy of prematurity and Ebola.

Dr. Prakalapakorn is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She completed her fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Duke Eye Center, her residency in ophthalmology at Emory University Hospital, and earned her MD and MPH from Emory University School of Medicine. She currently holds appointments as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and an Associate Professor in Pediatrics at Duke.
