About Me
Dr. Ruston L. Hess is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Tomoka Eye Associates who provides comprehensive eye care with a focus on cataract surgery and refractive surgery. He helps patients understand the cause of blurred vision, glare, and changing prescriptions, and he partners with them to choose the right treatment plan—from updated eyeglasses and dry eye care to surgical options designed to improve day-to-day vision. Dr. Hess studied at the State University of New York at Binghamton and earned his osteopathic medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed residency training at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and has served as a comprehensive ophthalmologist at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and Naval Hospital Jacksonville. His military service also includes roles as a battalion surgeon with the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune and as a general medical officer at Naval Station Mayport. Before medical training, he practiced as an optometrist in the Volusia County area from 2000–2007.
