About Me
Dr. Roomasa Channa is an ophthalmologist and assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She is a clinician-scientist with a dedicated focus on diabetic retinal diseases. Her work aims to understand and protect vision through innovative research and clinical care.
Dr. Channa's research focuses on studying vision loss from diabetic retinal diseases by leveraging advances in retinal imaging, artificial intelligence, and genetic data. She is particularly interested in implementing point-of-care AI-based techniques to improve access to screening for diabetic retinopathy. This work helps identify novel pathways of vision loss in diabetes and makes advanced diagnostic tools more accessible to patients.
Dr. Channa completed her medical education at Aga Khan University in Pakistan and pursued extensive training at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, including a research fellowship in retina and uveitis, an ophthalmology residency, and a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship. Her comprehensive background enables her to provide advanced care for patients with complex retinal conditions.
