About Me
Dr. Rachel Huckfeldt is a clinician scientist in the Mass Eye and Ear Inherited Retinal Disorders Service who specializes in the care of individuals with inherited retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt disease.
As a clinician scientist, Dr. Huckfeldt’s research includes understanding the genetic causes and natural history of these conditions as well as assessing investigational therapies. She is the site principal investigator for numerous clinical trials at Mass Eye and Ear, and she is also the Co-Chair of the Foundation Fighting Blindness Clinical Consortium. Dr. Huckfeldt’s research has been funded by a Career Development Award from the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
Dr. Huckfeldt earned her MD and PhD (Neuroscience) at Washington University. After completing her ophthalmology residency in Harvard Medical School’s Department of Ophthalmology, she completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania followed by clinical fellowships at the University of Iowa (medical retina) and Mass Eye and Ear (inherited retinal degenerations).
