Dr. Philip Cofoid

Dr. Philip Cofoid is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who provides medical and surgical care for common and complex eye conditions. His clinical interests include cataract surgery, including laser-assisted techniques, as well as the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. He focuses on practical, step-by-step explanations so patients understand their options and feel prepared for surgery and follow-up.

Born and raised in McAllen, Texas, Dr. Cofoid earned a B.S. at Southern Methodist University and his M.D. at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. He completed an internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia, where he cared for a wide range of anterior and posterior segment disease. He partners closely with referring optometrists and primary care clinicians to coordinate long-term vision care and optimize outcomes for patients with coexisting systemic disease such as diabetes.
