About Me
Dr. Peter MacIntosh is an associate professor and the director of the Neuro-Ophthalmology Service at the University of Illinois. He also serves as the Residency Program Director and the Director of the Global Ophthalmology Fellowship. His dual-fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology and oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery equips him to manage a wide range of complex conditions that involve the eyes, orbit, and nervous system.
Dr. MacIntosh's clinical expertise includes treating papilledema, optic neuritis, diplopia, and orbital diseases. He has a particular interest in combined neuro-ophthalmic and orbital processes such as thyroid eye disease, facial paralysis, and compressive optic neuropathy. Patients with these conditions can expect a comprehensive evaluation and a treatment plan that may involve medical, surgical, or multidisciplinary approaches.
Dr. MacIntosh completed his medical degree at The Chicago Medical School and his ophthalmology residency at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. He then pursued advanced fellowship training at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is board certified in ophthalmology and has been a faculty member since 2015.
