About Me
Dr. Peter G. Hovland is a board-certified medical and surgical retina specialist at Colorado Retina Associates. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of vitreoretinal disorders, with particular expertise in age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, ocular oncology, and inherited retinal diseases. Dr. Hovland pioneered fine needle aspirate biopsy techniques for genetic specimen collection in cancer patients and has published peer-reviewed scientific papers in the field.
Dr. Hovland earned his medical degree and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he also completed an internal medicine internship. He served as chief resident during his ophthalmology residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, then completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School's Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and a research fellowship at the Schepens Eye Research Institute. He is an associate clinical professor at Rocky Vista University and serves on grant review committees for the Ocular Melanoma Foundation and Melanoma Research Foundation.
Dr. Patients currently under his care are encouraged to transfer to another retina specialist at Colorado Retina Associates.
