About Me
Mona Kaleem, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, specializing as a fellowship trained glaucoma and cataract surgeon in Bethesda, Maryland. She is broadly trained in the medical and surgical care of glaucoma, with excellence in patient care, teaching, and research that led to her selection for the American Glaucoma Society. Dr. Kaleem has been recognized by her peers as a Baltimore Magazine “Top Doctor” in 2018, 2019, and 2021, and received the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Achievement Award in 2020.
Born and raised in Maryland, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Economics with minors in Biology and Chemistry from Smith College before attending Howard University College of Medicine, where she was a Trustee Scholar and Malcolm X Scholarship awardee. She completed her medical training at Mercy Medical Center, Howard University Hospital, and the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Kaleem is deeply committed to volunteerism, participating in medical missions globally and in underserved U.S. areas. She is actively involved in legislative efforts to improve ophthalmology care delivery. Additionally, she hosts the Diagnosis Glaucoma podcast and co-authored the book 'Glaucoma: What Every Patient Should Know' with Dr. Harry Quigley, helping patients understand their condition.
