Dr. Michael Merck

Dr. Michael P. Merck is a board-certified ophthalmologist providing comprehensive eye care at Southwest Eye Care in Hutchinson, Minnesota. With extensive experience in advanced cataract surgery, including laser-assisted techniques and intraocular lens implantation, he treats a range of eye conditions such as cataracts, corneal diseases, and glaucoma. Dr. Merck also offers consultations for refractive surgery options like LASIK to help reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Merck has a longstanding commitment to global eye care. Since 1993, he has led mission trips to Guatemala, where he helped establish a clinic and surgical suite to restore vision for those without access to care. He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at the University of St. Thomas and earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota, followed by ophthalmology residency training at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
