Dr. Michael Smit

Dr. Michael Smit is a comprehensive ophthalmologist at Eye Centers of Ohio, where he has been practicing since 2017. He offers expertise in cataract and refractive surgery, surgical and medical treatment of glaucoma, and medical management of retinal disease. Dr. Smit provides care for a wide range of ocular conditions, drawing on his extensive background as both a board-certified optometrist and an osteopathic physician.

After completing an undergraduate degree at the University of Toledo and earning a Doctorate of Optometry, Dr. Smit served the community as an optometrist for ten years. He then pursued a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at Pacific Northwest University, followed by an internship at SUMMA Health System Akron City Hospital and a residency in medical and surgical ophthalmology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, where he served as Academic Chief. Dr. Smit is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
