About Me
Dr. Michael B. Gorin is a retinal specialist and ophthalmic geneticist at the UCLA Doris Stein Eye Research Center, where he serves as chief of the Retinal Disorders and Ophthalmic Genetics Division. He holds faculty appointments in the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Human Genetics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and is a member of the Brain Research Institute. Dr. Gorin divides his time between patient care for diseases of the retina, research into the genetics of inherited eye disorders, and training young ophthalmologists and medical students.
His primary research focus is the molecular genetics of hereditary eye disorders, particularly age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinitis pigmentosa, and Stargardt disease. His team was the first to identify genetic regions that contribute to AMD, leading to the identification of several macular degeneration genes. He continues to conduct research in these areas, as well as in the biology of ocular pain and photophobia.
