About Me

Michael A. Krause, MD, DPhil, is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Virginia. He provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for glaucoma, from early diagnosis and pressure-lowering drops to laser and operative treatments. Dr. Krause earned his DPhil at the University of Oxford and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. He completed ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic’s Cole Eye Institute and a glaucoma fellowship at UVA, where he now serves as associate residency program director. He partners closely with patients to craft practical plans that fit their lives, and he collaborates with referring optometrists and ophthalmologists to ensure seamless follow-up. His interests include minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices, and cataract surgery in eyes with glaucoma. Dr. Krause is active in resident education and clinical research aimed at improving long-term vision and quality of life.
