About Me
Dr. El-Dairi is a neuro-ophthalmologist and pediatric ophthalmologist at Duke Health who treats adults and children with neurological conditions affecting the eyes. She specializes in the diagnosis and management of complex eye disorders related to the nervous system, including optic nerve disorders, nystagmus, strabismus, and conditions such as idiopathic intracranial hypertension and cortical visual impairment. Her patients include children with or at risk for neurologic disease and adults with developmental delay.
In her practice, Dr. El-Dairi emphasizes a thoughtful approach to care, using ancillary testing such as visual fields and optical coherence tomography to assess risk for vision loss. She strives to avoid invasive procedures and sedation when possible. For young patients, she uses mechanical toys to test eye movements and offers small prizes to create a positive experience.
