About Me
Supporting the vision of children, adults and geriatrics, Matthew Hammond, MD brings more than 35 years’ experience to his patients. Throughout his career, he has been committed to serving his country and community. A military veteran, Dr. Hammond continues his commitment to service by providing care to patients with traumatic, vision-impacting injuries in communities across the Valley.
The greatest honor of his career to-date was his nine years of active duty as an ophthalmologist taking care of “America’s finest.” During this time, the United States Military declared unaided vision essential and started the Warfighters Refractive Surgery Program (WRESP) in 2005, providing LASIK to sailors, soldiers, pilots and Marines. Dr. Hammond trained in the military and performed many of those procedures. He was also the chief of ophthalmology and director of WRESP at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany for three years. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Humanitarian award for his relief work after Hurricane Katrina.
Having undergone corrective eye surgery himself, he understands patients’ concerns, listens and provides them with the information they need to feel confident in the treatment plan. He believes that each patient should be treated as family- not just another number.
