About Me
Dr. Mano Swartz is a retinal specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon who holds Emeritus status with Retina Associates of Utah following his retirement from clinical medicine in November 2018. He continues to contribute to research development at the practice, building on decades of work in macular and retinal vascular disease.
Dr. Swartz completed his undergraduate education at Middlebury College and earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University. He then completed his residency, retinal fellowship, and chief residency at the University of Illinois, where he received the Jack P. Cowan Outstanding Clinician Award. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he joined the faculty of the University of Utah Medical Center as a retinal surgeon in 1979.
Throughout his career, Dr. Swartz focused on the full spectrum of retinal and macular conditions, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachments. His research contributions include pioneering studies in argon vitreoretinal endophotocoagulation and evaluating zinc for age-related macular degeneration.
