Dr. Keirnan Willett
About Me
Keirnan Willett, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and a board-certified ophthalmologist. He received his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. He then completed a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as well as a condensed fellowship in uveitis and ocular inflammation.
Dr. Willett specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of retinal diseases, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, vascular occlusions, retinal detachment, and inherited retinal diseases. He also focuses on inflammatory conditions of the eye, such as anterior and posterior uveitis due to autoimmunity and infection.
With a background in research, Dr. Willett was previously a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Research Fellow and has authored numerous research papers on vision science and ophthalmology. He has also traveled to Ghana, Columbia, and Botswana as part of his interests in international medicine and the development of vision healthcare systems.
