About Me
Dr. Thiran Jayasundera is a retina specialist with particular expertise in inherited retinal diseases and the testing used to understand retinal function. He cares for patients with conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt disease, Leber congenital amaurosis, X-linked retinoschisis, and choroideremia, and he also evaluates and treats retinal problems like age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular edema, and retinal vein occlusions.
His approach to care centers on compassion and trust, with the goal that patients feel heard, respected, and fully informed about their options. Dr. Jayasundera completed medical training at the University of Auckland and advanced fellowship training in inherited retinal diseases, clinical electrophysiology of vision, and vitreoretinal surgery. He also earned an M.S. in biostatistics, supporting his interest in evidence-based care and research. When a diagnosis is unclear, he may use retinal electrophysiological testing alongside imaging to guide next steps.
