About Me
Dr. Julie Gasperini is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon who specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous. She grew up in rural Michigan and earned her Bachelor of Science in Physiology with summa cum laude honors from Michigan State University Honors College. She then attended Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she received her medical degree and completed an internship in Internal Medicine. Her ophthalmology residency was completed at the Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University, where she served as co-chief resident, followed by a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California.
Dr. Gasperini joined South Coast Retina Center after her fellowship and sees patients in their Torrance and Long Beach offices. She is deeply committed to patient education and takes time to ensure her patients and their families understand their ocular conditions and treatment options. Her dedication to patient care earned her the Health Care Partners Group Patient Satisfaction Award in 2011. She is actively involved in clinical research as a principal investigator for retinal disease trials and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Gasperini also volunteers at free vision screenings for homeless and low-income families and enjoys an active family life with her husband and two young children.
