About Me
Dr. Julie Nishimura has been a Kaiser Permanente member for most of her life, starting from early childhood when her family moved to Hawaii from New Jersey. It was an eye doctor at Kaiser Permanente who first inspired her interest in ophthalmology. As a young patient in grade school, she admired the doctor’s ability to help people see clearly and appreciated her kind and compassionate ways, which led Dr. Nishimura to pursue ophthalmology as a career.
During her residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. Nishimura decided to specialize in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, a disorder in which both eyes do not look at the same point at the same time. She enjoys the challenge of treating complex adult strabismus and finds it highly rewarding to improve children’s vision and eye health. Dr. Nishimura also enjoys her work in general ophthalmology, which involves the medical and surgical treatment of the majority of eye conditions in people of all ages.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Nishimura enjoys spending time with friends and family.
