About Me
Dr. Joseph Pasternak is a refractive surgeon with over 25 years of military experience. He participated in the FDA trials that approved laser vision correction in the United States and was the first military eye surgeon to perform refractive surgery. He founded the Laser Vision Center at Bethesda Naval Hospital and developed the LASIK program for US Naval Academy midshipmen, helping expand career options for over 8,000 military officers. Dr. Pasternak also conducted studies on the safety and effectiveness of LASIK for Navy and Marine Corps aviators, leading to approval for all warfighters.
Dr. Pasternak specializes in LASIK and PRK procedures to correct refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. With over 10,000 eye surgeries performed and more than 80 surgeons trained, he brings a focus on safety, predictability, and optimal outcomes to each patient. He currently practices at LasikPlus, where he continues to provide advanced refractive surgery care.
