About Me

Dr. Joseph D. Bogaard, MD, PhD, is a vitreoretinal surgeon who specializes in the medical and surgical care of retinal diseases. He treats age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and dislocated lenses. Patients value his thorough exams, measured decision-making, and commitment to preserving and restoring sight whenever possible. Dr. Bogaard completed his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, an internship at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Virginia. Having grown up in Chicago, he is glad to care for patients in the Midwest and is passionate about teaching the next generation of ophthalmologists while delivering attentive, evidence-based care in clinic and the operating room.
