About Me
Dr. Joseph Caprioli has retired from full-time practice but continues on a part-time basis to conduct research, academic activities, teach, and see eligible patients by telemedicine. He holds the academic title of David May II Professor of Ophthalmology at UCLA.
He completed his glaucoma fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia under Dr. George Spaeth, following his residency in Ophthalmology and internship in General Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Caprioli has trained more than 120 clinical and research fellows, many of whom now hold full-time faculty positions in major academic centers worldwide.
Dr. Caprioli has over 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications to his credit and serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Ophthalmology, the Journal of Glaucoma, and Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science. His clinical research includes the functional and structural assessment of the optic nerve for the early detection of glaucomatous damage.
