About Me
Dr. John Kempen is a nationally and internationally recognized ophthalmologist specializing in ocular inflammatory diseases such as uveitis, scleritis, and related conditions. He also has expertise in managing ocular complications of AIDS. Patients can expect comprehensive care for complex inflammatory eye conditions, with a focus on advanced medical management including immunosuppressive therapy. Dr. Kempen is actively involved in international research to address global blindness, particularly through his work in Ethiopia and India.
Dr. Kempen serves as Director of Epidemiology for Ophthalmology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. As Co-Founder and President of Sight for Souls, he leads efforts to develop sustainable eye care in developing countries.
With doctoral training in epidemiology and masters-level training in biostatistics and public health, Dr. Kempen applies his research background to advance the understanding and treatment of inflammatory eye diseases. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Ophthalmic Epidemiology.
