About Me
Dr. John B. Ferguson III is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been serving Wilmington, Delaware patients for over 41 years. He specializes in glaucoma and cataract laser surgery, performing procedures such as YAG laser capsulotomy to treat posterior capsule opacification after cataract surgery and laser treatments to reduce intraocular pressure in glaucoma. He is known for listening carefully to his patients, answering questions thoroughly, and being readily accessible.
Dr. Ferguson has a strong interest in medical ethics and has served on the Medical Ethics Committee at St. Francis Hospital for 12 years, where he helped develop patient-centered programs and policies. He also dedicates time to community service, providing eye care for low-income patients at the Nemours Clinic in Wilmington for 18 years and serving as the primary ophthalmologist for the St. Clare Van, a medical outreach program for the homeless and indigent.
Dr. Ferguson completed his medical education and residency at Thomas Jefferson University, where he received the Carrol R. Mullen award as the top ophthalmology student. His residency included training at the renowned Scheie Eye Institute and Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
