About Me
Joann J. Kang, MD, is the Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Montefiore Einstein and a Professor of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. A nationally recognized physician and surgeon, she is dedicated to providing comprehensive patient care, performing advanced surgeries, and engaging in research and education. Dr. Kang specializes in the medical and surgical management of conditions affecting the cornea and external eye, as well as cataract surgery.
Dr. Kang earned her Bachelor of Science with Honors from Cornell University and her Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, University of Illinois at Chicago, where she served as chief resident, followed by a fellowship in corneal and external disease at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.
Her research focuses on corneal diseases and transplantation, and she has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and clinical trials. Dr. Kang is actively involved in professional organizations, holding leadership positions in eye banking and ophthalmic associations, and she has received multiple awards for her teaching and contributions to the field.
