Meet Dr. Jella Angela An

Jella Angela An, MD, MBA, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist who offers thoughtful, personalized care for patients with glaucoma and cataracts. She emphasizes clear communication, practical home routines, and careful follow-up to protect vision over time. Her surgical interests include minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and complex cataract surgery, and she guides patients through when to consider lasers, implants, or combined procedures to simplify drop regimens and speed recovery.

Dr. An received both her BSc and MD degrees from McGill University before completing a clinical fellowship in glaucoma and advanced anterior segment surgery at the University of Toronto. Prior to joining MUSC, she served as Medical Director and Vice Chair for the Wilmer Eye Care Network and was an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins Medicine. She remains active in research focused on novel surgical and laser interventions and extended-release drug delivery to make glaucoma care safer, earlier, and more effective.
