About Me
Dr. James F. McDonnell is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at Loyola University Medical Center. He serves as Professor and Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus in the Department of Ophthalmology, bringing over three decades of experience since joining Loyola in 1994.
Dr. McDonnell treats a range of eye conditions in children and adults, including strabismus (misaligned eyes), amblyopia, and double vision. He performs strabismus surgery and provides vision testing and screening for young children. Patients and families appreciate his thorough explanations and patient, compassionate manner with children of all ages.
Dr. McDonnell completed his medical degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and pursued residency training in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the University of Wisconsin before joining Loyola's faculty.
