Meet Dr. Irene Ludwig
About Me
Dr. Irene H. Ludwig is a board-certified pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus specialist with over three decades of experience. She completed her medical education at Weill Cornell Medical College and her ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Following a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at The Children’s National Hospital, she pursued research at the National Eye Institute and has held academic positions at LSU Eye Center and Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital.
Dr. Ludwig has been the Pediatric Director of Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Eye Center South since 1991, providing expert care for children with eye conditions. She is recognized for her expertise in strabismus surgery and has authored a comprehensive textbook on the subject. Her clinical practice focuses on strabismus, amblyopia, nystagmus, blocked tear ducts, and other pediatric eye disorders.
She is an active member of professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Dr. Ludwig sees patients in Dothan, Alabama, and also travels to locations in Florida to ensure accessible care for families in the region.
