Dr. Gareth Lema

Dr. Gareth Lema is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of retinal diseases. He is dedicated to providing comprehensive retina care, including conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment. Dr. Lema is committed to a patient-centered approach, ensuring that each individual receives personalized attention and the latest treatments available.

Dr. Lema completed his medical degree at the University at Buffalo and then pursued an internship in transitional year at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. He went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at the Ross Eye Institute and a fellowship in retinal surgery at the Flaum Eye Institute. Before joining Mount Sinai, he served as the Director of the Retina Service at the Ross Eye Institute.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Lema is an active Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and serves as a Councilor. He was nominated to the Phi Beta Kappa and Gold Humanism in Medicine Honor Societies and has published numerous research papers. Dr. Lema is currently the Site Director for Quality, Safety, and Patient Experience for the Department of Ophthalmology at Mount Sinai, where he focuses on enhancing patient care and safety.
