About Me
Dr. Donald A. Barnhorst Jr. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea specialist who founded Barnhorst Eye Associates and Barnhorst Eye & Laser Center. He is nationally recognized for his research and contributions to the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Barnhorst opened his private practice in Jacksonville in 1999, where he focuses on corneal conditions, refractive surgery (LASIK), and cataract surgery, in addition to providing routine eye care.
Dr. Barnhorst graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. He then pursued a fellowship in cornea, refractive surgery, and advanced anterior segment microsurgery at the Eye & Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh. With extensive experience in refractive and corneal procedures, he has been performing laser vision correction since its FDA approval in 1995.
Dr. Barnhorst is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of the International Society of Refractive Surgeons and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. His research in laser vision correction and corneal disease has been published in major ophthalmology journals and presented at national and international conferences.
