About Me
Dimosthenis (Dimos) Mantopoulos M.D., Ph.D is an ophthalmologist, retina specialist, and vitreoretinal surgeon at NJRetina. He received his medical degree and PhD in Ocular Immunology from Athens Medical School in Greece, where he was accepted after achieving one of the top scores in the national exam.
Dr. Mantopoulos continued his education in the United States with a retina research fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Harvard Medical School. His work there on neuro-protection after retinal detachment led to patented clinical applications. He completed an internal medicine internship at Metropolitan Hospital and New York Medical College, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Ohio State University. He then undertook a retina fellowship at NJRetina, Rutgers/Robert W. Johnson.
Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Mantopoulos served as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine, where he mentored residents and medical students. He continues to teach as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Dartmouth while practicing at NJRetina. He has authored over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in professional societies, including serving on the educational committee of the American Society of Retinal Specialists. Dr. Mantopoulos is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
