Meet Dr. Centrael Evans
About Me
Dr. Centrael Evans (often called Sonny) is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who provides medical, laser, and surgical care for a wide range of eye conditions. He is especially focused on helping patients protect vision over time through thoughtful diagnosis, clear communication, and evidence-based treatment.
An Athens native, Dr. Evans earned a degree in Biology from Brigham Young University and received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. During medical school, he was recognized as a Global Health Institute Field Scholar for work focused on pediatric cataracts in Zambia.
Dr. Evans completed ophthalmology residency at SUNY–Buffalo, serving as Chief Resident. He has been recognized for professionalism and compassion through the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received support for community-based research aimed at improving outcomes for patients with ophthalmic emergencies. His clinical interests include cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and traumatic eye injuries.
