Dr. Catherine Choi

Dr. Eric D. Gaier is a physician-scientist and pediatric neuro-ophthalmologist at Boston Children’s Hospital. He focuses on diagnosing and treating vision and eye movement disorders that are rooted in the nervous system, with the goal of supporting a child’s visual function and day-to-day experience over their lifetime. Dr. Gaier cares for children with conditions such as cortical visual impairment, Leber’s optic atrophy, and neurofibromatosis, and he also treats strabismus and amblyopia when these affect vision development and quality of life. He works closely with families to understand how a child uses vision at home and at school, and to create a care plan that fits medical needs as well as practical goals. His training includes medical and graduate education at the University of Connecticut and ophthalmology residency training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Dr. Joseph F. Griffith is a pediatric ophthalmologist at Boston Children’s Hospital who cares for children and families with a focus on eye alignment and vision development. He evaluates and treats strabismus (eye misalignment) and amblyopia (“lazy eye”), helping families understand what’s happening and what to expect from treatment options such as glasses, patching, and other therapies. Dr. Griffith chose pediatric ophthalmology because each child and each age brings unique challenges—and he aims to make visits feel comfortable, even fun, while teaching parents what they need to know about their child’s eye condition. He is part of the Pediatric Strabismus Service and also cares for patients through the Adult Strabismus Service when appropriate. Dr. Griffith speaks English and Spanish.

Dr. Kara C. LaMattina is an ophthalmologist at Boston Medical Center and an Assistant Professor at Boston University. As Director of the Uveitis Service, she cares for adults and children with ocular inflammation, helping patients understand the cause of uveitis and guiding treatment to protect vision and comfort. She treats both chronic and complex presentations and works closely with patients and families to create clear, step-by-step care plans. Her clinical interests also include pediatric and adult strabismus, cataracts, amblyopia, retinopathy of prematurity, and sarcoidosis. Dr. LaMattina earned her undergraduate degree at Brown University and her medical degree at New York Medical College, then completed ophthalmology residency at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County. She completed fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Wills Eye Hospital and additional fellowship training in Uveitis at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
