About Me
Dr. Bret Fisher is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Southern Eye Consultants in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he specializes in cataract and refractive surgery. With over 50,000 laser vision correction procedures and 40,000 cataract surgeries to his name, he is a highly experienced surgeon. Dr. Fisher is recognized as a key opinion leader in ophthalmology, frequently consulting with industry leaders, conducting clinical trials, and lecturing at local, national, and international meetings.
Dr. Fisher's educational background includes graduating magna cum laude from Duke University and earning his Doctor of Medicine with honors from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, which is consistently ranked among the top three ophthalmology residencies in the country. During his residency, he co-authored the first edition of the Wills Eye Manual, a bestselling book in the field.
Committed to giving back, Dr. Fisher founded the Tecate Eye Surgery Clinic for the Flying Samaritans in Mexico and regularly volunteers with Eye Care America and Operation Sight to provide cataract surgery for those in need. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, playing tennis and golf, and is an instrument-rated private pilot with over 2,000 hours of flight time and a certified scuba diver.
