About Me

Dr. Bertram T. Matsumoto is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been serving patients since joining the practice in July 1996. He completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University with Honors and earned his M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. During his ophthalmology residency at Washington University, he was recognized with the Outstanding Resident award.

Dr. Matsumoto is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association. His clinical interests include cataract, glaucoma, and diabetic eye diseases. He has a particular expertise in advanced cataract surgery techniques, such as premium lens implantation with astigmatic correction and multifocal lenses, which can help patients achieve greater independence from glasses after surgery.

He is also excited to offer the innovative Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), the only FDA-approved intraocular lens implant that can be adjusted after cataract surgery to optimize visual outcomes. Dr. Matsumoto sees patients at the Tempe, Ahwatukee, and Sun Lakes offices and is affiliated with the Surgery Center of Gilbert.
