About Me

Benjamin Botsford, MD, is a vitreoretinal surgeon and Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at UMass Chan Medical School. Raised in Rhode Island, he joined the UMass Memorial Eye Center in 2022 and enjoys caring for a diverse patient community while mentoring residents as an associate program director. Patients appreciate his clear explanations and the collaborative way he builds treatment plans tailored to their goals and daily life. Dr. Botsford provides both medical and surgical care for retinal conditions, including diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and retinal vascular disorders. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and lectures regionally and nationally. Locally, he has volunteered at diabetes outreach clinics and presented on protecting vision for people living with diabetes. He looks forward to partnering with patients to preserve sight with the latest advances in retina care.
