Dr. Athanasios Papakostas

Dr. Athanasios Papakostas is a retina specialist who diagnoses and treats diseases of the retina and vitreous that can threaten vision. He cares for patients with urgent problems such as retinal tears and retinal detachment, as well as chronic conditions including diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and macular degeneration. His approach emphasizes careful evaluation, clear communication, and treatment plans tailored to protecting vision over time.

He received his medical degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, School of Medicine. He then completed advanced training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, including a research fellowship, residency, a medical retina/research fellowship, and a vitreoretinal fellowship. His clinical interests include complex retinal detachment with proliferative vitreoretinopathy, diabetic vitrectomy, macular surgery, and sutureless IOL fixation.
