About Me
Dr. Andrew Melson serves as the Residency Program Director for the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology in Oklahoma City. He maintains a dual practice of both neuro-ophthalmology and comprehensive ophthalmology, surgically managing adult strabismus, optic nerve sheath fenestrations, and cataracts including premium IOL services. He is well published in these areas, holds national leadership positions in subspecialty organizations, and teaches at cataract courses for residents nationwide.
Dr. Melson is a native of the Cincinnati, Ohio area. He earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude and his medical degree from Saint Louis University, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed his internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, then served as a resident in ophthalmology at Dean McGee Eye Institute/OU, acting as chief resident during the 2017-2018 academic year. He completed his neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in 2019 and joined the institute as faculty thereafter.
Dr. Melson has received numerous honors and awards for his care and teaching, including the Dr. and Mrs. T.E. Acers Resident Honor Award, the Annie Moreau Fellowship Teaching Award, the Dewayne Andrews, MD Excellence in Teaching Award, and the Edward and Thelma Gaylord Faculty Honor Award.
