Meet Dr. Alexander Walters

Alexander Walters, MD, is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist who provides medical and surgical care for a wide range of eye conditions in Western North Carolina. He treats cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eye, with special interest in advanced cataract surgery using adjustable, multifocal, and astigmatism-correcting lenses to help reduce dependence on glasses. When appropriate, he also performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and customizes treatment to each patient’s daily visual needs.

Dr. Walters grew up in Hayesville, NC, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia, where he was elected to AΩA and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. After a preliminary year in internal medicine at Legacy Medical Center, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the Casey Eye Institute (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon, and joined Asheville Eye Associates in 2022.
