About Me

Dr. Alexander R. Shusko is an ophthalmologist with focused expertise in uveitis and ocular inflammatory disease at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. He evaluates and treats inflammatory eye disorders that may be isolated to the eye or associated with systemic autoimmune or infectious conditions. In addition to clinical care, Dr. Shusko studies challenging entities such as birdshot chorioretinopathy and coccidioidomycosis-related uveitis, aiming to improve diagnostic precision and long-term visual outcomes. He also provides cataract evaluation and surgery when lens opacities affect vision or limit inflammation management. Dr. Shusko earned his MD from Creighton University School of Medicine and completed ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. He pursued fellowship training in Uveitis and Ocular Inflammatory Disease at the Jules Stein Eye Institute (UCLA). Patients value his methodical approach, collaborative care with rheumatology and infectious disease colleagues, and clear explanations tailored to each patient’s goals and lifestyle.
