Dr. Alex McGaughy

Dr. Alex McGaughy is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who provides medical and surgical care for a wide range of eye conditions. He is known for thoughtful explanations, careful surgical planning, and a patient-first approach that helps people understand their diagnosis and feel comfortable with next steps. In clinic and the OR, he focuses on precision and safety so patients can return quickly to the activities they love.

A North Carolina native, Dr. McGaughy earned his BS in Biomedical Engineering as valedictorian at North Carolina State University and received his MD from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed internship at Princeton Baptist Medical Center and ophthalmology residency at the Callahan Eye Hospital through the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as chief resident. At Coastal Eye Group, he sees patients in Little River and Myrtle Beach, offering comprehensive eye exams, cataract surgery, and management of chronic eye disease.
